The Dish:

Vegan baking can be super challenging. Believe me, I've tried. Sometimes it's a win, while other times it can be an epic fail. So when I find vegan goodies that score high on the tasty factor, I go back for more. The creations made by Wholesome Bakery are definitely worth sampling. A fav of mine are their oatmeal cookie sandwiches, which are moist and crumbly and slathered with frosting filling. Extremely decadent tasting, but actually not too dangerous for your arteries. Imagine that!

Key Ingredients: Flour, oats, vegan butter, sugar

The Place:

The lovely folks at La Victoria on 24th Street have been letting Wholesome Bakery use their kitchen and also sell in their store. La Victoria, one of the oldest bakeries in SF, is amazing at helping out new food entrepreneurs by giving them access to a professional kitchen and a place to host their food and events. When I was there one day doing a video piece on Sour Flour, the team at The Wild Kitchen were prepping for a dinner that evening. La Victoria realizes that having a place to legally bake and cook can be hard to come by in SF, but they're willing to share their space for the sake of good, healthy, and delicious edibles.

You can also find a Wholesome Bakery stand at the indoor marketplace at 331 Cortland Avenue alongside the tasty offerings of several other food entrepreneurs.

Eat Here and Save the World:

Wholesome Bakery is devoted to green and sustainable business practices, delivering goodies by bike (and hopefully by a bio diesel van soon, once they raise enough funds), so you're not just filling your body with "healthy treats;" you are also helping our planet stay green.
